Cheese Strata

Mix:
6 eggs
3 c. milk
½ t. salt

Add in:
1 t. prepared mustard
1 lb. Cooked bacon, crumbled
9 slices old dry bread, cubed
½ lb. Cheddar cheese, grated
½ lb. Jack cheese, grated
1 bunch green onions, sliced

Pour into greased 9x13 pan. Cover and refrigerate overnight. Bake 40 minutes in preheated 450-degree oven.

From whence it came: A wonderful gal name Luana Vogelsang published this recipe in a church cookbook years ago, and the Anderson clan has been thankful ever since. Luana is someone you could chat with all day long. Huge heart, fun lady! Thanks for sharing this one, Luana! It's a doozy!

Why it's blogable: Just make it once and you'll see why. First of all, it's just so mouthwatering yum-e. Us Andersons eat it every single solitary Christmas morning. Yes we do! Not only is it delish, you make it the day before and then all you do the day of is pop it in the oven. It's the perfect holiday breakfast, which is why I'm posting it right before Easter. It is one of our favorite traditions. (Most of our traditions involve food, sadly enough!)

FYI: The original recipe called for 2 pounds of cheese and 1/2 pound bacon. I changed it to 1 pound of cheese and a whole pound of bacon. Oh yeah, and the original recipe also called for mushrooms, but us Andersons don't eat anything that involves the word "mush" so I never add 'em. Go ahead if you want to...live dangerously! My teen son loves this recipe so much, that when I asked what he wanted for his birthday breakfast last year, he picked this. Speaking of the teen son, he is a lover of all things bacon. A few years ago he told me he was going to get rich by inventing a bacon scented air freshener. The kid has bacon issues!

Hope you enjoy stirring it up!
